Save the Pilgrims - 22/01/07

Boston United Football Club Supporters Trust stepped up their quest to attract members and donations, which it is hoped will support and possibly save Boston United FC, by handing out leaflets at Saturday's home match with Swindon Town. The leaflets entitled "SAVE THE PILGRIMS" is the first stage of a major push by the Trust to highlight the desperate situation the club finds itself in and to increase the profile and membership of the Trust, which if successful, will enable the Trust to follow in the footsteps of many other successful Supporters Trusts, namely Lincoln City, Notts County and Barcelona FC. Over the past months the BUFCST has established a rapport with the Football Association, Football League, and Professional Footballers Association and has become a member of Supporters Direct, all of whom are keen to see the Trust grow in stature. Acting Trust Board Members will be meeting with local MP Mark Simmonds this Friday, who is also keen to discuss ways in which he can assist the Trust.

After the successful leaflet launch at Saturday's home match Acting Vice Chairman Melvin Moxon announced "The BUFCST's aim is to develop the Trust into a fit for purpose body, transparent in all its actions and able to take the reigns of Boston United if the worst should happen, but we would still of course be there as a support organisation, if a change of ownership should materialise".

The stepping up of the Trust's campaign is imperative, it is hoped that new members will join the Trust, and hopefully active members too, who feel they have something to offer and could possibly join the acting board or be a member of the important sub-committees. The Trust will be contacting and meeting local authorities and government bodies as soon as possible and will be formulating a strategy to attract sponsorship from local and national businesses.

There will be open public meetings held over the coming weeks, to allow anyone that is interested in Boston United FC to have their say; the dates to be announced very shortly.
