A Statement made by Feasibility Study Group for the Inception of a Boston United Supporter’s Trust - 28/08/05

The first meeting of the Feasibility Study group for the Inception of a Boston United Supporter’s Trust was held yesterday (27th August, 2005).

A small group of Boston United supporters met informally yesterday to discuss the setting up of a Supporters’ Trust.

Dale Allitt, BUSA Chairman was also invited and attended.

It was agreed to change the group’s name to “The Working Group for the Inception of a Boston United Supporter’s Trust“.

Dale provided the group with the history of previous attempts to establish such a Trust and provide an update to some of the issues regarding the possible relocation of Boston United.

The broad view of those present, (and leaving aside the current issues regarding the relocation of BUFC for the moment), was that it was felt, in principle, a club like Boston would be well served by having a Supporters’ Trust although what form this trust would take, would needed to be decided by all the fans of Boston United.

In terms of the time scale, it is difficult to say because a Supporters’ Trust would need to have discussions with Supporters’ Direct and take advice. Other stakeholders, and most importantly the fans and Boston United Football Club would need to be closely involved.

BUSA is already in place and works very effectively as a Supporters’ Association and has two representatives on the Board of Boston United.

BUSA also ticks all of the boxes in terms of the requirements of Supporters’ Direct.

Therefore it would seem sensible to ask BUSA if it would consider being the starting point for establishing a Supporters’ Trust, although fans and BUSA members will need to support this idea.

Work will be ongoing into the feasibility of the Trust and at some future point fans will be consulted on their views and in identifying who would be willing to stand for election to the Trust.

In the meantime, we will keep you posted when meetings are to be arranged.

End.

Issued by The Working Group for the Inception of a Boston United Supporter’s Trust.
