BUFCST Statement 15/06/08

Trust Statement 15/06/08

On Thursday members of the BUFCST board met at the fields near The Oche and Boston Rugby Club to finalise plans and sites for the upcoming festival of fun on 21st/22nd June. The plans are now well advanced and entries have been coming in at a good rate for the adult and junior five-a-side tournaments. The adult one boasts a prize fund of £2000 and if anyone still wants to enter and take up one of the limited places available, visit the BUFCST website at www.bufcst.org.uk. Before that there will have of course be the memorabilia auction on Friday 20th to open the weekend, information and the ability to bid for items including a signed David Norris Ipswich shirt can again be found on the BUFCST website.

The failed appeal and consequential off-the-field relegation to the Unibond Premier Division was also discussed by the board members. Although we all understood the appendix that resulted in the Pilgrims' relegation, we cannot agree with the way it has been applied. Unfortunately it seems blatantly clear that neither the Conference or the FA has used any degree of common sense or discretion whatsoever in their rulings.

Before the appeal the Trust held an Open meeting on Tuesday 10th June where it was agreed by 34 votes to 1 for the Trust to attempt to raise £50,000 in two instalments of £25,000 in return for shares in the club and a place on the board. Further details such as the exact stake or who shall be on the club board will be addressed when the Trust is approaching its target, although the BUFCST board members are very open for it to be a Trust member who is not already on the BUFCST board. As usual David Newton and Neil Kempster spoke honestly and openly, and the Trust would like to thank them for that and their attendance. We are now firmly convinced that these are the best two people to take the club forward. A range of questions were asked at the meeting, and these will be available for all to view when the minutes are agreed at the next board meeting (scheduled for Thursday 26 June).

Since the meeting, the Trust have been delighted by postings on internet forums and emails pledging sums of money or suggesting and volunteering to take part in a weekly donation scheme. The Trust will investigate the feasibility of all of these schemes and hopes to make an announcement about them in the coming weeks.
