Being a relatatively recent fan of the Pilgrims (some 14 years) I have always tried to ignore the negative comments many people make about the past. I would much rather look to a positive future for the club and its fans. This why I am involved with the Trust.

I was totally impressed with the vision of the Trust - a club by the fans for the fans, and the aim of becoming a genuine community club connecting closely with the community and particularly the young, who are the club's, and the Trust's, future. Although I have been a supporter only 14 years, what time it has been.

I still pinch myself to believe we were in the Football League. This is where we should be, and I believe the success of BUFC SUPPORTERS' TRUST will play a pivotal role in ensuring we get back there and go forward to even better things.

Born in Boston in 1964, I have been a regular watcher of Boston United from their Northern Premier League days in the early 1970's.

My first real memory was from the famous 0 - 0 away draw in the third round of the F A Cup to the then reigning Football League Champions, Derby County. Being still at primary school, I remember full well the joy of that result being heightened by a free afternoon off school for the replay, yes we lost 6 - 1, but what a few days.

I remain a season ticket holder with my two sons, Adam aged sixteen, and Patrick aged thirteen.

I am Managing Partner at a large firm of Chartered Accountants, Moore Thompson, who have offices in Spalding, Wisbech and Market Deeping. I am based at Spalding but deal with many Boston businesses.

As well as football, I have always been a fanatical sportsman, having represented England Under 21's at squash and winning the British University Championship twice.

My love of sport, Boston United and their financial position, led me to volunteer for the role of Treasurer for the Boston United Supporters Trust to ensure that the fund raising efforts towards our goals are in safe hands.

I first started helping the Trust in early 2006 by updating their website, and was belatedly co-opted onto the board in January 2008! I started following the Pilgrims in their debut Football League season, and have been a season ticket holder since. In September 2008 I took on the membership secretary role.

I am involved with the Trust as I think it should be an essential organisation as Chestnut Homes try to bring the club back to its feet. We now have a great opportunity to do this with the target of raising £50,000 to buy a stake and place on the board in the club, and this is something we must do our upmost to achieve.

My first memory (although by no means the first match I attended, so my parents tell me) was the defeat of Bromsgrove Rovers in January 1967. I was probably the only person standing on the slag heap now known as the Town End when Ken Oxford let a weak shot got straight through his legs in the first few minutes. United went on to win 9-1. I am involved in establishing the Trust because I believe, irrespective of current difficulties, that the supporters should be in a position to run the club when and if the opportunity arises.

Favourite moment: I suppose it has to be the Conference winning game at Hayes, particularly as I had to be playing in a jazz group in the Holiday Inn in Leicester until 12.55 and never thought I would get to the start of the game - but was in the ground by 2.50!

My earliest memory of going to watch Boston United was 20th November 1982, when we played Crewe Alexandra in the first round of the FA Cup. The attendance was over 3,000 and we beat the Division 4 opposition 3-1 to set up a home tie against Sheffield United. I was 8 years old at the time and this encounter got me hooked for life.

Throughout the 80's I continued to watch Boston and went to every game in the FA Trophy run of 84/85, culminating of course in the final at Wembley. I think my entrance fee for the final was £2 and I remember getting there by coach, which picked up my dad, elder brother and myself from outside the Railway pub in Boston.

I moved away from Boston in 1993 and although I continued to follow results, I decided to concentrate on my own playing career (Huntingdon Town, United Counties League) and never attended another match until February 1999 (Altrincham), when I found myself back in Boston for a day. We won 2-0 that day in what was an FA Trophy tie and once again I found myself hooked. Ever since then I've travelled back to Boston whenever I've not had a game myself and have been a season ticket holder for the last six years.

I became involved with the Trust right at the beginning of its formation when we used to hold meetings in the front room of Lee Overton's house on a Saturday morning before each home match. I retired from playing football in 2006, having ruptured cruciate ligaments in both knees and find I now have more time to devote to the cause of the Trust and its aims of securing the long term safety of Boston United.

Favourite Moment: 1st April 2002 v Southport. 2-0 down and came back to win 3-2 to put us on course for winning the Conference title. Check out Scott Dalton's commentary in the BBC archives!

Chris Cook

Chris Cook

Chris played for the Pilgrims in two stints over a 19 year period, firstly from 1979 to 1991 when he was transferred to Kings Lynn but then returned 18 months later in 1992 and retired in 1998 aged 36. He had also been the Player/ Assistant Manager to Greg Fee for two seasons and became Steve Evan's Assistant for a short time when he first came to the club in 1998, before stepping down to concentrate on the print and office supplies business he runs with his brother Glen.

Chris is a Boston lad who was signed in 1979 when he was only 16 and played an handful of games in his first two seasons, Chris then forced his way into the first team squad with his goal-scoring exploits in the reserve team in the Lincolnshire League. Chris became the club's groundsman in 1981 helping with the maintenance of the York Street ground, he was also featured on the BBC's "Match of the Day" during the Pilgrims' televised FA Cup tie at home to Sheffield United in December 1982.

Chris scored the Pilgrims' only goal in the FA Trophy Final defeat at Wembley in 1985 and was voted "Player of the Year" in 86/87 after becoming top scorer with 27 goals. Toured Holland and Hungary with the Middlesex Wanderers in the summer of 89. Chris was granted a testimonial in the 1989/90 season for 10 years service. He eventually left York Street for spells with Altrincham, King's Lynn and Boston Town before "coming home" to jointly manage the newly established reserve team in 1992. However midway through the 1994/95 season, he made a fairytale return to first team action scoring the winner in a 1-0 away win at Matlock.

From then on he saw regular first team action until he hung up his boots to become the club's youth development officer in 1998. In the 1995/96 season he added a further 18 goals to his tally and was voted "Player of the Year" again. Appointed Player Assistant Manager to Greg Fee for the start of the 1996/97 season. Chris also set up and coached the successful Boston United Academy youth team for four years before stepping down and moving on to become Chairman with Holbeach United.

Chris is the club's all time leading goalscorer with 179 goals to his credit in 484 appearances, and now works voluntarily for Boston United as matchday host and as summariser on Radio Lincolnshire's matchday coverage of United. The reason Chris joined the Trust was he felt as though he could see what was happening to the club at the start of 2006 and did not like what he was seeing, and the only way to do something about it was to join the Trust and have his say! He urges all fans to support the club and join the Trust because without numbers our words and actions mean very little, and we could be needed in the future to help our club survive again.
